21 Years Gone by Book Summary:

By the time Jack was fifteen he was addicted to alcohol and prescription drugs, was hanging out with rock stars in LA and living a life that any teenager would aspire to. And then The Osbournes turned him into a global celebrity. But as much as Jack enjoyed his fame, underneath it all he was still an awkward teenager, using his sense of humour as a shield. And with fame and money came a greater access to drugs - his addictions took a firmer hold on him and his behaviour was soon out of control. In 21 Years Gone Jack writes with brutal frankness about his descent into addiction and the low point he reached when Sharon was diagnosed with cancer. Scared that his mum might die, Jack retreated further into his alcoholic shell, hating who he was, hating what he did. Every night he would get into bed and pray for God to take his life. When Sharon realised what was happening she told Jack he had to go to rehab - and slowly he turned his life around. Discovering a passion for extreme sports, he went from overweight and unfit to the lean young man he is today - courtesy of such adventures as running with the bulls in Pamplona, fighting a Thai martial arts expert known only as 'The Man' and scaling El Capitan, one of the world's toughest climbs. By turns funny, disarmingly honest and moving, 21 Years Gone is the amazing story of young man who has confronted his demons and defeated them.

Five Years Gone & One Year Home Boxed Set by Marie Force Book Summary:

Book 1: Five Years Gone The most brazen terrorist attack in history. A country bent on revenge. A love affair cut short. A heart that never truly heals. I knew on the day of the attack that our lives were changed forever. What I didn’t know then was that I’d never see John again after he deployed. One day he was living with me, sleeping next to me, making plans with me. The next day he was gone. That was five years ago. The world has moved on from that awful day, but I’m stuck in my own personal hell, waiting for a man who may be dead for all I know. At my sister’s wedding, I meet Eric, the brother of the groom, and my heart comes alive once again. The world is riveted by the capture of the terrorist mastermind, brought down by U.S. Special Forces in a daring raid. Now I am trapped between hoping I’ll hear from John and fearing what’ll become of my new life with Eric if I do. Book 2: One Year Home He came home a hero and lost the only woman he’s ever loved... John I have no idea how to survive without my beloved Ava. She had no choice but to move on with her life during my six-year deployment and has now married Eric. I hate him for taking her from me. I’d prefer to wallow in my depression and heartbreak, but the whole damned world wants a piece of the SEAL Team leader who helped capture the world’s most-wanted terrorist. I need help handling the relentless requests, and when Ava sends her new sister-in-law to manage the media circus for me, I’m prepared to hate her on principle. Her brother took my Ava. What else do I need to know about her? Julianne It takes five seconds to realize Ava’s ex is going to be the most complicated and difficult client I’ve ever had, but the opportunity to represent the most celebrated man in the world could make my career. I’m determined to do the job, even if I dislike John from the moment I meet him. And I like everyone. So much so that my brothers worry about me being exploited by those who would take advantage of my unwavering love for others. But John… He’s in a class by himself, and his bitterness is a festering wound that I begin to wish I could somehow fix for him. The more time we spend together, the more our mutual disdain morphs into something that feels an awful lot like desire. There’s no way I can want this man, or so I tell myself, and when Eric finds out I’ve developed feelings for the man causing trouble in his new marriage, well… That’s going to be a hot mess.

Jack London: an American novelist, journalist, railroad hobo, gold prospector, sailor, poet, socialist, an oyster pirate, war correspondent, alcoholic, a rancher… This collection is trying to uncover who was this incredible charismatic author, what hides behind the adventurous life anecdotes he wrote about, what were his convictions, dreams and what were his darkest hours. Accompanying London on this voyage was his wife Charmian London and a small crew. "John Barleycorn” is an autobiographical account of Jack London dealing with his enjoyment of drinking and struggles with alcoholism. "The People of the Abyss” describes London's experiences about life in the East End of London in 1902. He wrote this first-hand account after living in the East End for several months, sometimes staying in workhouses or sleeping on the streets. "The Mutiny of the Elsinore” - After death of the captain, the crew of a ship split between the two senior surviving mates. The novel is based on London's voyage around Cape Horn on the Dirigo. Short Stories: Tales of the Fish Patrol - As a 16 year old man, Jack London became a member of the California Fish Patrol. These are the stories drawn from his experiences in catching fish poachers. The Kempton-Wase Letters by Jack London Book Summary:

The Man behind the Legend: Memoirs, Autobiographical Novels & Essays of Jack London by Jack London Book Summary:

This collection is trying to uncover who was this incredible charismatic author, what hides behind the adventurous life anecdotes he wrote about, what were his convictions, dreams and what were his darkest hours. Content: "The Road" is London's account of London's experiences as a hobo in the 1890s, during the worst economic depression the United States had experienced up to that time. "The Cruise of the Snark" chronicles London's sailing adventure in 1907 across the south Pacific in his ketch the Snark. Accompanying London on this voyage was his wife Charmian London and a small crew. "John Barleycorn" is an autobiographical account of Jack London dealing with his enjoyment of drinking and struggles with alcoholism. "The People of the Abyss" describes London's experiences about life in the East End of London in 1902. He wrote this first-hand account after living in the East End for several months, sometimes staying in workhouses or sleeping on the streets. "Martin Eden" is a novel about a young proletarian autodidact, former sailor, struggling to become a writer. Eden is a semi-autobiographical character, based on London himself. "The Mutiny of the Elsinore" - After death of the captain, the crew of a ship split between the two senior surviving mates. The novel is based on London's voyage around Cape Horn on the Dirigo. Short Stories: Tales of the Fish Patrol - As a 16 year old man, Jack London became a member of the California Fish Patrol. These are the stories drawn from his experiences in catching fish poachers. The Human Drift is a collection of short sketches, stories and essays, mostly concerning sailing and London's love for sea. Essays: Through The Rapids on the Way to the Klondike From Dawson to the Sea Our Adventures in Tampico… Jack London was an American novelist, journalist, railroad hobo, gold prospector, sailor, poet, socialist, an oyster pirate, war correspondent and a rancher.

Set against the backdrop of twentieth-century South India, the novel takes readers from the 1890s village where Ramu’s grandmother grew up to the Emergency years of 1970s Madras. Against this sweeping canvas unfolds the drama of Ramu and Ponni’s forbidden love, inescapably intertwined with the great struggle against caste oppression. Gun, with Occasional Music by Jonathan Lethem Book Summary:

A hard-boiled detective tale full of talking animals and murder, from the award-winning author of Motherless Brooklyn and The Arrest. Gumshoe Conrad Metcalf has problems—there's a rabbit in his waiting room and a trigger-happy kangaroo on his tail. Near-future Oakland is a brave new world where evolved animals are members of society, the police monitor citizens by their karma levels, and mind-numbing drugs such as Forgettol and Acceptol are all the rage. Mixing elements of sci-fi, noir, and mystery, this clever first novel from a beloved author is a wry, funny, and satiric look at all that the future may hold. Metcalf has been shadowing Celeste, the wife of an affluent doctor. Perhaps he's falling a little in love with her at the same time. When the doctor turns up dead, our amiable investigator finds himself caught in a crossfire between the boys from the Inquisitor's Office and gangsters who operate out of the back room of a bar called the Fickle Muse. Newsweek“Marries Chandler's style and Philip K. Dick's vision.”— “Marvelous…Stylish, intelligent, darkly humorous, and highly readable entertainment.”—San Francisco Examiner

The Guitar Man by Maurice C. Taylor Book Summary:

Set in Ventnor, a quaint seaside town on the Isle of Wight off the south coast of England, this bitter-sweet love story describes the lifetime of Chris and Penny from their childhood. As the story unfolds from the early fifties, picturesque scenes from around the island are intertwined in their story of undying love and devotion, and recall features of those early days now long gone. Times change for them as residents of “The Swan” and the heart is warmed by the happy times they share in the social atmosphere of the town pub, and torn by the grief they suffer with the tragedies that beset their lives. Despite tragic circumstances Nancy their daughter grows from a happy child to an attractive successful young woman, through the devotion and determination of those who love her. However, this comes at a price; with terrible guilt for Chris, betrayal of his love for Penny and the unhappiness he brings to Sandra, who is a key to Nancy’s happiness and success. Years later reflecting on her parents’ lives, Nancy learns just how strong the bond and love between her parents had been. Book reviews online: PublishedBestsellers website.

The Irish Buddhist by Alicia Turner,Laurence Cox,Brian Bocking Book Summary:

The Irish Buddhist is the biography of an extraordinary Irish emigrant, sailor, and migrant worker who became a Buddhist monk and anti-colonial activist in early twentieth-century Asia. Born in Dublin in the 1850s, U Dhammaloka energetically challenged the values and power of the British Empire and scandalized the colonial establishment of the 1900s. He rallied Buddhists across Asia, set up schools, and argued down Christian missionaries--often using western atheist arguments. He was tried for sedition, tracked by police and intelligence services, and died at least twice. His story illuminates the forgotten margins and interstices of imperial power, the complexities of class, ethnicity and religious belonging in colonial Asia, and the fluidity of identity in the high Victorian period. Too often, the story of the pan-Asian Buddhist revival movement and Buddhism's remaking as a world religion has been told 'from above,' highlighting scholarly writers, middle-class reformers and ecclesiastical hierarchies. By turns fraught, hilarious, pioneering, and improbable, Dhammaloka's adventures 'from below' highlight the changing and contested meanings of Buddhism in colonial Asia. Through his story, authors Alicia Turner, Brian Bocking, and Laurence Cox offer a window into the worlds of ethnic minorities and diasporas, transnational networks, poor whites, and social movements. Dhammaloka's dramatic life rewrites the previously accepted story of how Buddhism became a modern global religion.

RUDYARD KIPLING PREMIUM COLLECTION: His Greatest Works in One Volume (Illustrated): The Jungle Book, The Man Who Would Be King, Just So Stories, Kim, The Light That Failed, Captain Courageous, Plain Tales from the Hills by Rudyard Kipling Book Summary:

This carefully crafted ebook: "RUDYARD KIPLING PREMIUM COLLECTION: His Greatest Works in One Volume (Illustrated)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. "The Jungle Book" is a collection of stories and fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of The Law of the Jungle, for example, lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities. The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of an abandoned "man cub" Mowgli who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The most famous of the other four stories are probably Rikki-Tikki-Tavi and Toomai of the Elephants. "The Second Jungle Book" is a sequel which features five stories about Mowgli and three unrelated stories, all but one set in India, most of which Kipling wrote while living in Vermont. "The Man Who Would Be King" is a novella about two British adventurers in British India who become kings of Kafiristan, a remote part of Afghanistan. The story was inspired by the exploits of James Brooke, an Englishman who became the first White Rajah of Sarawak in Borneo. "Kim" is and adventure novel about the orphaned son of an Irish soldier and a poor Irish mother who have both died in poverty. Living a vagabond existence in India under British rule in the late 19th century, Kim earns his living by begging and running small errands on the streets of Lahore. "The Just So Stories" are a highly fantasized origin stories, especially for differences among animals, they are among Kipling's best known works. "The Light That Failed" "Captain Courageous" "Plain Tales from the Hills" Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist. "The Light That Failed" "Captain Courageous" "Plain Tales from the Hills" Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936) was an English short-story writer, poet, and novelist. He wrote tales and poems of British soldiers in India and stories for children.
